The N.B.A. has decided to crack down on the
cry babies of the league. They will impose stiffer
fines. The referees will have a very quick whistle.
I like it. I like it a lot. It's about time the league
told these players to shut up and play ball. With
the technology today, the league can easily weed
out the officials that do not perform well. There is
another reason why I agree with this crackdown.
This crackdown just might mean the end of the
prima donna as we know it.

His name is Cam Newton. He plays
Quarterback for the Auburn Tigers. I don’t want to
get ahead of myself here but, this guy can play.
When it’s time for him to enter the N.F.L. draft,
it won’t be a question of how high he will be picked.
The question will be what position does he play and
dominate. He will dominate the quarterback
position. If this kid keeps progressing, he will
dominate at the quarterback position in the Show.
     Newton can do it all.
Is it me or do the Knicks have a little
toughness in them. Once again… I don’t want to get
ahead of myself.
The Dallas Cowboys might not win another
game this year. I can live with that. This Cowboy
team is probably the most overrated team in the
league.

All of the so called football experts say that
the best teams in the N.F.L. are in the AFC.
Well, the injury riddled, so called struggling
Packers shut out the Jets. The only AFC team that
can hang with the NFC are the Steelers. There
are a whole lot of games left in this season. But,
you heard it here first.
I’m getting ready to watch the countdown to
the ten best players in N.F.L. history. If Jim
Brown is not number  one, I will know the panel
that picked these players know nothing about
football. I will know that they are enamored with
the game of football as we know it now. I have
seen the shows for the ninety greatest players. I
can’t get over the fact that there are only thirty
defensive players on the list so far. I’m not
surprised to see that Steve Mariucci is one of the
people that voted for the players on the list.
That’s why there are only thirty defensive players
on the list so far.
Don Hutson is the father of the west coast
offense.

Dick Butkus 10
Don Hutson 9
Peyton Manning 8
Reggie White 7
Johnny Unitas 6
Walter Payton 5
Joe Montana 4
Lawrence Taylor 3
Jim Brown 2
Jerry Rice 1

Here are the top ten football players in
N.F.L. history. As voted by a select panel of
experts. Here is my take on this list. I have no
problem with Butkus at 10. Nor do I have any
trouble with Hutson at 9.
I personally think Don Hutson should be in the
top five. He totally revolutionized the wide
receiver position. He was the first person to
actually diagram pass plays. If you get a chance to
see some of his footage, his pass routes were
precise. He created the passing game as we know it
now. The football they used back in his day was
twice as big as the one in use today. That fact
makes his accomplishments even more remarkable.
There is no way Jerry Rice is the best
football player of all time. There is no way one can
compare his accomplishments to that of Jim Brown.
They both dominated the game when they played.
The major difference between the two is Jim
Brown played the running back position. They called
the selection committee a “blue ribbon panel of
experts.” They got this one all wrong. They should
really be ashamed of themselves. How can they
overlook the fact that Jim Brown averaged 100ypg
for his career? 112ypg to be exact. No rusher has
come close to that mark for his career. I do not
think that record will be broken anytime soon. Jim
Brown’s average of 5.2 yards per carry is also an
N.F.L. record. That record will be pretty hard to
break. The Niners would have been a good team
without Jerry Rice. The Browns would not have
been a good team without Jim Brown. Anybody that
knows the game of football can not argue that fact.
When Lebron James has the ball in his hands,
the Miami Heat is a dangerous team. They are
dangerous unless they play a well coached team. A
well coached team with a couple of solid big men. A
well coached team with a couple of solid big men,
and an all-pro point guard. The Utah Jazz is a well
coached team with a couple of solid big men, and an
all-pro point guard. The Utah Jazz beat the Miami
Heat in overtime in Miami. The Jazz overcame a
23 point deficit to win the game. The Heat has
been exposed like I said they would. How were
they exposed? The Jazz were able to exploit the
Heat’s lack of depth. As the Jazz slowly chipped
away the huge deficit, they substituted players
freely. The Jazz can go to at least 4 or5 players
off of their bench.  The players that come off of
the bench are very good players. There is little to
no drop-off of talent when they replace a player.
The Heat’s bench, at best, is made up of marginal
talent. There is a significant drop-off of talent
when they replace a player.
The Jazz have two solid low post players with
Paul Milsap and Al Jefferson. Jefferson didn’t have
his usual high scoring game offensively, but was
able to keep a body on Chris Bosh. While Bosh was
dealing with Jefferson, Milsap went to town on the
Heat defense to the tune of 46 points. The Heat
did not have a big man that could check him. His
play more than offset the solid performance of
Chris Bosh. The Jazz won the battle of the
interior.
Deron Williams is one of the top three point
guards in the league. He kept his cool and calmly
kept his team in sync while the Heat made the
ir
run. There aren’t too many point guards in the
league that have the discipline to do what Williams
did. The Jazz were superior at the point guard
position.
Heat coach Eric Spolstra is a promising young
coach. Maybe one day he will be on the level of the
coach of the Jazz, Jerry Sloan. This was a
coaching mismatch in the favor of the Jazz. You
can count on one hand the number of coaches in the
league that can hang with Jerry Sloan.
Can the Heat win the N.B.A. title? If they
keep running their offense through Lebron James,
they have a chance. If they do not address their
weaknesses, they are dead in the water. At the
beginning of the season I looked at the Heat roster
and came to the conclusion the Heat have many
weaknesses that can keep them from winning a title.

Carlos Beltran says he is willing to be traded.
I say fine. Trade him. Don’t get me wrong. Beltran
had a pretty good run here when he was healthy.
He was a true five tool player. He does not trust
the Mets organization. I can’t blame him for that.
He is going to be hard to trade. Beltran is due 18
million dollars this year. He is coming off of an
injury that kept him out of just about all of last
year. I can’t see a team taking that risk.

Ring the bell! The Big Blue collapse
watch has just started.
I have got to admit it. I can watch a full half
of women’s basketball. This something I could not
admit to ten years ago. The women have raised the
level of their game.

Mike Vick MVP? I think a lot of the
sportswriters are getting a little ahead of
themselves. This has been a crazy football season
so far. Check it out. One week the Packers were
the hot super bowl team. Then the Dolphins beat
them. The Dolphins beat the Packers? The next
team the pundits anointed was the Patriots. Then
the Browns beat them. The Browns beat the
Patriots? The new chosen one became the Giants. I
cringed when the pundits did this. I’m a Giant fan
from the old school. I can feel a potential jinx in
the making. Sure enough, the Giants got waxed by
the Cowboys. The Giants had a chance to put the
‘Boys away for good. But nooooo, they get run out
of their own building instead. Let me tell y’all
something, there is not a clear cut super bowl
favorite. The hot team now is the Eagles. Don’t be
surprised if the Giants go in to Philly and beat the
Eagles. You heard it here first kiddies.
